The U.S. Marshals Service is investigating allegations that a federal contractor, who assists in the protection of government-owned cryptocurrency assets, stole over $40 million worth of digital assets. Cryptocurrency analyst ZachXBT revealed that the individual making the accusations is John “Lick” Daghita. Daghita is the son of Dean Daghita, the president of CMDSS.
Investigations have shown that Daghita tracked at least $23 million of his funds among the approximately $90 million worth of cryptocurrency seized by the government in 2024 and 2025. This situation has raised new concerns regarding the oversight of cryptocurrency assets held by the U.S. government.
Previous reports indicated that the U.S. Marshals Service was unaware of the exact number of digital assets it possesses.
