The US Department of Labor unexpectedly released significant data regarding unemployment insurance applications during the federal government shutdown process.
For the week ending October 18, the number of individuals filing for unemployment insurance for the first time has reached 232,000. This figure marks an increase from the 219,000 applications recorded for the week ending September 20.
The number of continuing unemployment insurance claims has also increased, reaching 1.957 million as of last week. The previous week's figure was 1.947 million.
The 43-day government shutdown that ended on November 12 negatively impacted the announcement of economic data, creating uncertainty. During this period, the increase in unemployment figures is viewed as a significant indicator of the economic recovery process.
