EU's Visa Restrictions on Russians

The European Union (EU) has updated its visa rules for Russian citizens due to increasing security concerns arising from the war in Ukraine. According to the statements made, Russian citizens will no longer be able to obtain a multiple-entry Schengen visa and will have to apply for a new visa for each trip to Europe.

Purpose of Public Order and Security

The EU stated that these measures aim to protect public order and security. However, it was noted that some exceptions would be applied for independent journalists and human rights defenders.

Statement from Kaja Kallas

The EU's High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Kaja Kallas, stated in a social media post, "It is not a valid justification to start a war and expect to move freely in Europe. The EU is tightening visa rules for Russian citizens due to ongoing drone incidents and sabotage in European territory. Traveling to the EU is a privilege, not a right."
