The ambassadors of European Union (EU) member countries will hold an extraordinary meeting in Brussels following the decision of U.S. President Donald Trump to impose additional tariffs on eight European countries.
The main agenda of the meeting will be to assess the situation regarding recent developments. EU sources stated that the ambassadors will conduct a detailed analysis on this critical issue.
Trump announced that as of January 17, he would impose a 10% customs duty on countries such as Denmark, Norway, Sweden, France, Germany, United Kingdom, Netherlands, and Finland. It was stated that this tax rate could rise to 25% starting from June 1, 2026.
Trump suggested that the reason behind this decision was that world peace was at risk due to the discussions regarding Greenland. The customs duties will remain in effect until an agreement on the purchase of Greenland is reached.
