The European Union (EU) High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Kaja Kallas, stated that the USA continues to be Europe’s most important ally, defending the stance of the administration of President Donald Trump towards Europe.
Kallas made significant remarks during a panel moderated by Christiane Amanpour at the 23rd Doha Forum held in Doha. In response to a question about whether the Trump administration views Europe as an enemy, Kallas said, "I did not read it that way."
Kallas emphasized the positive remarks regarding transatlantic relations in the 33-page strategy document prepared by the Trump administration, stating, "The USA is still our biggest ally." She highlighted that while they do not always agree on various issues, the fundamental principles have not changed.
Kallas argued that Europe perceives its power against Russia as low and that Europe needs to be more self-confident. This carries an important message for the continent's security and independence.
The new National Security Strategy Document published by the Trump administration contains strong criticisms of European governments. The document emphasizes that some European countries are at risk of losing their civilizations due to their immigration policies, while it is claimed that some governments unfairly censored far-right political parties.
