Zurich Insurance CEO Yıldız Spoke on Climate Action

Yılmaz Yıldız, CEO of Zurich Insurance Group Turkey, delivered important messages at the "Mobilizing Capital for Climate Action – Innovation and Collaborations" panel during the UN Global Compact HUB events. Emphasizing the role of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in the business world, Yıldız stated that the definition of leadership should no longer be determined solely by finance, but by creating value for all stakeholders.

He also served as a jury member in the 'SDG Innovation Presentations: Solutions for a Sustainable Business World' session, organized within the framework of the Leaders Summit. 15 teams from around the world developed projects aligned with sustainable development goals over nine months. With his questions during his jury duty, Yıldız highlighted the value entrepreneurs can bring to society and the business world.

In the panel he attended, Yıldız summarized the role of the insurance sector in sustainable development as follows: "I define the UN Global Compact as shaping the future responsibly. It is a great pleasure to be on these platforms and to exchange ideas. Sustainability and SDGs are no longer just a business matter for companies, but a responsibility towards society, the planet, and future generations."

The Role of the Insurance Sector in Sustainability

Emphasizing their contribution to sustainable finance under four main headings, Yıldız shared the following information: 1) Direct investments; 2) Investments evaluated with a risk engineering approach; 3) Transformation support with new products and services; 4) 70%-75% of financial assets managed by insurance companies. All these contributions position the insurance sector as a pioneer in the transformation of sustainable development.

Yıldız stated that they will continue to create value for all their stakeholders with this understanding.
