Zara's employees in Europe are preparing for large-scale protests ahead of the upcoming Black Friday period. Protests, organized under the coordination of the Spain-based CCOO union, will be held on November 28 in front of Zara stores located in Spain, Belgium, France, Germany, Italy, Luxembourg, and Portugal.
At the center of these protests is the demand for the reinstatement of the profit-sharing system that employees are advocating for. This system, which was previously offered to employees under Inditex, was abolished after the pandemic. Workers are calling for the equitable sharing of high profits.
CCOO representative Rosa Galan emphasized the strong financial performance of Inditex, asserting that the high profits achieved by the company should be fairly shared not only at the management level but also among the workers. Galan noted that it is the employees' efforts that have contributed to these profits.
The protests will take place in major cities such as Valencia, Paris, Berlin, and Rome, with widespread participation. Workers express that this will not just be a one-day event, but a long-term struggle. The actions carried out during a period of high sales volume like Black Friday aim to draw customer attention as well as advocate for employees' rights.
As hundreds of thousands of consumers shop during this period, it remains to be seen to what extent Zara employees' demands will be met. How the company will respond to these demands will also be closely monitored. The employees participating in the protests emphasize that they will stand up not only for their own rights but also against injustices across the industry.
