In a landmark move, the Reserve Bank of New Zealand (RBNZ) has appointed Anna Breman from the Swedish Central Bank as its new Governor. She is the first female central bank governor in the country's history.
New Zealand's Minister of Finance, Nicola Willis, said this important appointment was the result of a global talent search that considered over 300 candidates. Breman has been deputy governor of the Reserve Bank of Sweden since 2019.
Anna Breman's appointment was made possible through a fast-track process following the sudden departure of former Governor Adrian Orr in March 2023. Breman's experience will be critical in guiding the RBNZ's future policies.
