The General Director of Russia's State Nuclear Energy Company Rosatom, Aleksey Likhachev, stated in his remarks that they will prepare for the commissioning operations of the Akkuyu Nuclear Power Plant (NPP) this year.
Likhachev emphasized that this critical process is guided by President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Alparslan Bayraktar. He stated that 2025 will be a “challenging yet victory-filled year.”
Pointing out the difficulties in the Akkuyu NPP project, Likhachev revealed that there have been issues such as Siemens not fulfilling equipment supply and the freezing of 2 billion dollars in investments. Nevertheless, he stated that they will continue to make progress despite these challenges.
Likhachev mentioned that they have received significant support from Russian President Vladimir Putin and expressed that they will take all necessary steps to realize nuclear energy in Turkey this year.
Providing information about Rosatom's past efforts, Likhachev noted that discussions with leaders of the global nuclear industry emphasized that there is no alternative to nuclear energy. He added that the 21st century will be the “century of electricity” and highlighted the need to develop nuclear technologies.
