Turkey and The Gambia have taken an important step to strengthen cooperation in the energy sector. Within the framework of the 5th Turkey-Africa Business and Economy Forum held in Istanbul, a Memorandum of Understanding regarding cooperation in the energy sector was signed between the governments of the two countries. The agreement was officially accepted by Turkey's Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Alparslan Bayraktar and The Gambia's Minister of Petroleum, Energy and Mines Nani Juwara.
This framework agreement aims to enhance cooperation between Turkey and The Gambia in the energy sector. The two countries plan to develop joint projects for the construction and operation of hydroelectric, solar, and wind power plants. These projects will facilitate more efficient use of renewable energy resources for both countries while contributing to their sustainable energy goals.
In recent years, Turkey has emphasized renewable energy sources through strategies developed in the energy sector. The Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources places importance on expanding cooperation with African countries, and growing markets like The Gambia present important opportunities for Turkey's energy exports. The Gambia, on the other hand, is at the stage of implementing many projects aimed at improving its energy infrastructure and expects to reach its goals more quickly with a seasoned partner like Turkey.
The cooperation between the two countries will not be limited to the economic sphere, but will also positively impact energy security and the transition to green energy. Turkey's energy projects will meet The Gambia's energy needs while strengthening the bonds of friendship between the two countries. Thus, the steps taken in the energy sector will enhance intercontinental cooperation and solidify their positions in the international energy market.
