Historic Record in Wind Energy in Turkey

The Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources announced that an important record has been set in the field of renewable energy on the first days of 2026. On January 3, electricity generated from wind energy reached the highest daily production level at 259,076 megawatt-hours.

According to the statement, there has been a significant increase in the share of wind energy in electricity production during the first week of the year; approximately 25% of the electricity produced during this period was obtained from wind power plants.

Striking Statements from Minister Bayraktar

Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Alparslan Bayraktar stated that Turkey's installed capacity in renewable energy will continue to grow and reach new records. "We started 2026 with a record. Our electricity production from wind reached the highest level in daily terms on January 3, with 259,076 megawatt-hours of production," he said.

Increasing Goals with YEKA Competitions in Renewable Energy

Bayraktar emphasized that investments in renewable energy will continue with determination toward Turkey's goal of energy independence. He announced that at least 2,000 megawatts capacity YEKA (Renewable Energy Resource Areas) competitions will be held in 2026. He stated, "We will continue to convert our potential into energy with new investments we will make on land and at sea."

Offshore Wind Energy Projects

Minister Bayraktar also provided information on efforts to develop offshore wind energy. He stated, "We plan to realize 5,000 megawatts of offshore wind capacity by 2035."

As of November last year, Turkey's installed electricity capacity has reached 121,782 megawatts. The share of solar energy is 24,669 megawatts at 20.3%, and the share of wind energy has reached 14,546 megawatts at 11.9%. Thus, approximately one third of Turkey's installed electricity capacity is composed of solar and wind energy.
