Today, with the announcement published in the Official Journal of the European Union, Turkish Coffee has been certified in Europe as "Traditional Specialities Guaranteed" as a result of the application made by the Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges of Turkey (TOBB).
After a three-month evaluation process, Turkish Coffee will earn the title of being the first traditional product name registered from Turkey by the EU. This development is seen as a significant step for the recognition of Turkish culture and its unique flavor in the international arena.
TOBB President Rifat Hisarcıklıoğlu, in a social media post regarding the subject, stated, "Turkish Coffee, one of the deepest symbols of our culture, is also on the UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage List. With a history of over 500 years, it is not just a beverage, but a symbol of our hospitality, conversation, and friendship. As TOBB, we will continue to work to protect, promote, and certify our local and traditional values worldwide."
Additionally, Hatay Kaytaz Borek and Gaziantep Lahmacun have also received geographical indication certification from the European Union. Thus, the number of Turkish products certified by the EU has reached 40.
Among other traditional products that Turkey has registered are many valuable flavors such as Gaziantep Baklava, Aydın Fig, Malatya Apricot, Milas Olive Oil. With the variety protected by the EU, another chapter has been written in the richness of Turkish cuisine.
