The General President of Türk-İş, Ergün Atalay, announced that they will not attend the second meeting of the Minimum Wage Determination Commission. Atalay emphasized that this is not a protest, stating, "This does not mean that we intend to protest or sabotage there; we have no such intention."
Türk-İş organized a program called “Labor Law Meetings” in collaboration with Hacettepe University. Atalay noted that Türk-İş has acted with national priority throughout its history.
Atalay stated that the minimum wage has become a livelihood wage today. He pointed out that despite being part of the commission, they do not have the authority to determine the minimum wage and expressed the difficulty of making ends meet with the current minimum wage: "Our duty is to convey the difficulties of retirees, the unemployed, and those receiving minimum wage."
During the program, the International Labour Organization (ILO) Turkey Director Yasser Ahmed Hassan expressed the need to evaluate the relationship between working life and law. Hacettepe University Faculty of Law Dean Prof. Dr. Beşir Fatih Doğan also gave a speech at the program.
