The Turkish Statistical Institute (TÜİK) has announced the results of the 'Turkey Violence Against Women Survey' for the year 2024. This striking research is based on a comprehensive survey conducted with 18,275 women aged 15-59.
The research reveals once again that violence against women is a multifaceted and complex issue in Turkey. The responses from the participants underline the deep wounds and painful realities in society, highlighting the prevalence of various types of violence and frequently experienced situations. The rates of women experiencing violence are not limited to physical violence but also encompass different forms such as psychological and sexual violence.
According to the results of the research, a significant portion of women stated that they have been subjected to physical or sexual violence at least once in their lives. This situation indicates that violence against women is still not a taboo in society and requires further awareness and education. Additionally, the research found that societal gender roles and economic dependency have a significant impact on the reasons women experience violence.
On the other hand, TÜİK data also reveal an increase in incidents of psychological violence, particularly among younger women. The regions where women live, their education levels, and their ability to receive social support are important factors that influence the intensity of the violence they experience. In this context, the need for urgent measures to create a healthier society has become a topic open for discussion.
In the coming period, including lessons on combating violence in educational programs will accelerate efforts to protect women's rights and lead to greater societal awareness. All these data indicate that combating violence against women requires more social policies and public support projects to create lasting impacts.
