Turkey Statistical Institute (TÜİK) has made a significant contribution with an important study analyzing conflicting data at the regional level regarding household consumption expenditures. The results of the Household Consumption Expenditure for the year 2024, combined with reference year data from the past two years, shed light on the economic dynamics that need to be emphasized in Turkey.

According to the research results, 24.9% of household consumption expenditures across Turkey occurred through the TR1 (Istanbul) region. This striking figure reaffirms Istanbul's economic power and its position as Turkey's financial center.

In second place is the TR3 (Aegean) region, which draws attention with a 15.0% share. The strength of the Aegean region's agriculture, tourism, and industry sectors contributes to this high expenditure rate. The consumption expenditure share of the TR6 (Mediterranean) region is recorded at 12.1%, indicating the economic vitality of Mediterranean tourism and local businesses.

On the other hand, the regions with the lowest share in Turkey's household consumption expenditures have also emerged. The TRA (Northeast Anatolia) region, with only 1.5%, ranks at the bottom of the list, indicating a challenging period in terms of economic development. Following TRA is the TRB (Middle East Anatolia) region with 2.3%, and the TR9 (Eastern Black Sea) region with 3.1% completes this ranking. These data are significant as indicators of economic imbalances and social inequalities in different regions of Turkey.

The differences in regional expenditures are not limited to total expenditure amounts. Observing regional diversities in the content of consumption expenditures also presents a critical indicator for future economic planning. For example, a large portion of consumption in Istanbul is concentrated on luxury products and services, while in other regions, essentials such as food and basic needs take precedence. This situation raises the necessity for a reevaluation of regional economic strategies and support for local development projects.

In conclusion, TÜİK's data provides an important reference point that should be considered in Turkey's economic and social development. The regional reflections of household consumption expenditures will continue to be an effective factor in shaping the country's economic policies.
