Former US President Donald Trump announced on his social media platform Truth Social that he wants to impose a 100% tariff on film productions made outside the country.
Trump justified this decision by stating that film production was 'stolen' from the US by other countries, likening the situation to 'taking candy from a baby.' He also emphasized that California's 'weak and incompetent' governor had taken 'a particularly heavy blow' from this process.
Trump had previously, in May, authorized the Department of Commerce and the US Trade Representative to impose a 100% customs duty on all films produced in foreign countries. This proposal is expected to have a significant impact on the film industry and international trade.
