U.S. President Donald Trump evaluated the acquisition battle between Netflix and Paramount for Warner Bros. Discovery. Trump emphasized that these companies should consider their market shares during a roundtable meeting at the White House.
In response to a question about Paramount's offer to acquire Warner Bros. Discovery, Trump stated that he did not have much information on the matter. However, he expressed concerns raised by Netflix regarding Warner Bros.' acquisition agreement and highlighted that these companies needed to recognize their market shares.
Netflix announced on December 5 that it had reached a $72 billion equity deal, which includes film and television studios as well as HBO Max and HBO, to acquire Warner Bros. Trump noted that this agreement needed to "go through a process" and stated that he would also be involved in the decision-making process.
The media and entertainment company Paramount made a total offer worth $108.4 billion to acquire all shares of Warner Bros. Discovery for $30 in cash per share.
Trump mentioned that he had no information on whether his son-in-law Jared Kushner supported Paramount's offer. "I haven’t talked to him about this matter at all. He’s focused on Gaza; that’s his primary concern," he pointed out.
