The White House announced that as of November 1, a tariff will be applied to imported medium and heavy commercial vehicles and buses. Import Rate and Dependence on Domestic Production

The announcement noted that the U.S. was once a leading country in this field, while expressing that the import rate has increased due to the shift of production power abroad between 1950-1990. It was recorded that the dependence on foreign suppliers in production processes has risen significantly, particularly for parts such as engines, batteries, and transmissions.

Applicable Tariffs and Objectives

The report stated that a customs tariff of 25% will be applied to imported medium and heavy commercial vehicles and 10% to buses, indicating that these regulations aim to strengthen supply chains, increase industrial resilience, and broaden skilled labor.

Special Exemptions and Additional Benefits

Additionally, it was noted that according to the USMCA agreement with Canada and Mexico, customs duties will only apply to components produced outside of the U.S. The statement signed by Trump also emphasized that by 2030, a tariff reduction equivalent to 3.75% of the total value of vehicles assembled in the U.S. will be implemented.
