U.S. President Donald Trump has signed a new executive order targeting countries that trade with Iran. This order provides for additional customs duties on countries that directly or indirectly obtain goods or services from Iran. Trump emphasized that this action is a response to the threats posed by Iran's behavior to the national security, foreign policy, and economy of the United States.
According to the order, products imported from countries trading with Iran may be subject to an additional customs duty of 25%. The scope of these duties will be determined after consultations with the U.S. Department of Commerce and the Department of State. In this process, recommendations will be made to the President regarding which countries will be affected by these measures and what tax rates will apply.
The order is planned to come into effect on February 7, 2026. Trump mentioned that products from countries doing business with Iran will face an additional 25% customs duty starting on this date. Previously, on January 12, he highlighted in a social media post that this regulation took effect immediately and that his decision was ‘final and definitive’.
The Departments of State and Commerce will have the authority to continuously monitor existing trade relations with countries doing business with Iran and recommend additional measures when necessary. This situation could lead to a reshaping of international trade and may have worldwide repercussions.
