US President Donald Trump was honored with the "FIFA Peace Prize" for his contributions to world peace ahead of the 2026 World Cup draw.
Trump was awarded this prize, presented for the first time by FIFA, prior to the draw held in Washington. Gianni Infantino, FIFA President, highlighted Trump's peace efforts during his term while presenting the award.
Infantino stated during the award ceremony that Trump played a significant role in ending several wars around the globe. After receiving the award, Trump remarked on conflicts between the Democratic Republic of Congo and Rwanda, as well as tensions between India and Pakistan, saying, "We saved millions of lives."
In addition to the award, Trump expressed gratitude to his family for their support during the process, as well as to the leaders of Canada and Mexico for their partnership in organizing the World Cup. "The world is a safer place now," he stated.
Last month, FIFA announced that it would present the FIFA Peace Prize for the first time to an individual who has made significant contributions to world peace.
