President of the United States Donald Trump made important statements regarding the planned but canceled meeting with Vladimir Putin in Budapest. In a press conference, Trump stated, "I canceled the meeting with President Putin because it did not feel right to me."
Trump expressed that he did not believe they could reach the targeted point regarding the canceled summit, saying, "That’s why I canceled it, but we will have it in the future," leaving the door open for possible future meetings.
Expressing his frustration over the disagreement between Russia and Ukraine, Trump indicated that economic sanctions against Moscow would be further intensified. In this context, he emphasized that major Russian oil companies such as Rosneft and Lukoil would be added to the sanctions list. "I felt the time had come; I waited for a long time. These are very heavy sanctions," he stated.
Trump highlighted the importance of the licensing process, stressing that the implemented sanctions were "very significant." "These are very significant sanctions imposed against their two major oil companies, and we hope they do not last long. We hope for an end to the war," he concluded.
