The President of the United States, Donald Trump, made significant comments regarding the government shutdown during a meeting with Republican senators at the White House on Wednesday.
Trump communicated to the senators, “We need to reopen the government soon.” Discussing the impacts of the government shutdown, Trump mentioned the New York City elections, stating, “The closure of the government had a significant effect on yesterday's elections.”
In his remarks, Trump also addressed the stock market, noting that the stock index has reached its highest level in the last 9 months and expressed his belief that it would reach record levels in the future. He also emphasized the negative effects of the government shutdown on the stock market.
Trump urged Republicans to pass the necessary bill to expedite the process of reopening the government without Democratic support. However, he reminded that due to the “Filibuster” rule in the U.S. Senate, 60 votes are required for the bill to be approved.
