U.S. President Donald Trump made significant comments regarding the government shutdown during a meeting with Republican senators at the White House on Wednesday.
Trump conveyed to the senators, "We need to reopen the government soon." He mentioned the effects of the government shutdown, stating, “The government being closed had a significant impact on yesterday's elections,” while referring to the New York City elections.
In his speech, Trump also touched upon the stock market, noting that the stock index reached its highest level in the last 9 months, expressing his belief that it would reach record levels in the future. Additionally, he emphasized the negative effects of the government shutdown on the stock market.
Trump urged Republicans to pass the necessary legislation to expedite the reopening of the government without the support of Democrats. However, he reminded them that due to the “Filibuster” rule in the U.S. Senate, 60 votes are needed for the bill to be approved.
