U.S. President Donald Trump announced his decision to increase the customs tariff on Canada by 10%. This announcement came after Canada claimed that it had distorted Ronald Reagan's statements regarding customs duties.
Trump stated in a social media post that Canada was caught red-handed in a manipulated advertisement that misrepresented Reagan's remarks on tariffs. He emphasized that this advertisement was used without the permission of the Reagan Foundation.
Trump conveyed that the Reagan Foundation expressed that the advertisement was illegal and that its use was not permitted as they pleased. There is also information that the Foundation is considering taking legal action regarding the issue.
Trump noted that Reagan supported tariffs for national security and the economy, but Canada made contrary comments. "The purpose of this fraud is to escape the tariffs that have been harming the U.S. for a long time," he said.
Trump stated, "Due to the distortion of facts, I am increasing the tariff on Canada by the current rate of 10%." It was also shared with the public that he had suspended all trade talks with Canada on October 23.
