Trump stated in his announcement that the advertisement, which allegedly spoke negatively about former President Ronald Reagan, was misrepresented by the Ronald Reagan Presidential Foundation and Institute. He emphasized that the foundation revealed that the advertisement edited Reagan's radio address from April 1987 without permission.

Trump's Statements

In a post on his Truth Social account, Trump wrote, "The Ronald Reagan Foundation announced that Canada committed fraud by depicting Reagan speaking negatively about tariffs in a fake advertisement. This was done solely to influence the decisions of the U.S. Supreme Court and other courts. TARIFFS are extremely important for the national security and economy of the U.S. Due to this misconduct, ALL TRADE NEGOTIATIONS WITH CANADA HAVE BEEN TERMINATED."
