U.S. President Donald Trump announced that he may impose export restrictions on Boeing aircraft parts in response to the restrictions the Chinese government has placed on the export of rare earth minerals. This statement came during a time when trade tensions have escalated further.
Speaking to reporters at the White House, Trump responded to a question about which products the U.S. might impose export restrictions on. "We have a lot of things, the most important of which are planes. They (China) have a lot of Boeing planes and they need parts for those planes," he said.
Trump stated in a social media post that China has begun to act "hostile" and has sent letters to other countries to impose export restrictions related to rare earth elements.
Additionally, he announced that starting November 1, they will impose a 100% customs duty on top of the existing tariffs paid to China, along with implementing export controls on all critical software.
