US President Donald Trump has taken an important step by approving the Ambler Road Project, aimed at exploring Alaska's rich mineral potential.
According to an official statement from the White House, Trump approved the appeal made by the Alaska Industrial Development and Export Authority (AIDEA) and directed that the necessary permissions for the construction of the Ambler Road Project be granted. This move overrides the decision by former President Joe Biden's administration to reject the project last year.
With Trump's approval, the progress of the project has become feasible. The statement emphasized that the Ambler Road Project is an industrial road totaling 211 miles (approximately 340 kilometers) long, extending to Alaska's Ambler mineral district. This road will provide access to mineral deposits, greatly enabling the exploration of valuable minerals such as copper, cobalt, gallium, and germanium.
The construction of the project is expected to create 2,730 direct jobs and enhance economic growth in rural areas of Alaska. Additionally, it is projected that Alaska will generate more than $1.1 billion in revenue from this project.
Furthermore, the US government is establishing a partnership with Trilogy Metals company. The statement indicated that an investment of $35.6 million would be made to support exploration activities in the Ambler mineral district. As a result of this investment, the US government will acquire 10% of Trilogy Metals' shares and gain the right to purchase an additional 7.5% stake in the company.
