Toyota Motor Corp. has managed to break a global sales record in the first half of 2025. The company balanced the negative effects of poor performance in China and Japan with strong growth in the U.S. market.
According to the announcement made by the company on Monday, total sales, including subsidiaries Daihatsu Motor Co. and Hino Motors Ltd., rose by 3% compared to the previous year, reaching 949,153 units in September. Production also increased by 9%, reaching 1,036,106 vehicles.
The world's largest automaker, Toyota, continues to grow despite demand fluctuations in China and tariffs imposed by U.S. President Donald Trump. Toyota reached consecutive record production and sales figures for the first seven months of the year, and although it lost momentum in August, it maintains its overall trend.
While sales of Toyota and Lexus brands showed a decline in China and Japan in September, strong demand for gasoline-electric hybrid vehicles in the U.S. led to an increase of over 14%. Hybrid models accounted for 42% of total sales in the first half of the fiscal year. Overall total sales rose by 5% in the six-month period, setting a new record.
