Turkish Airlines (THYAO) has announced its goal to reach a fleet of 1000 aircraft by 2033 as part of its growth strategy. Speaking at the groundbreaking ceremony held at Istanbul Airport, Prof. Dr. Ahmet Bolat, Chairman of the Board and Executive Committee of THYAO, stated that the total investments in this direction would exceed 100 billion TL.
Bolat emphasized that THYAO has entered the second phase of acquiring 500 additional aircraft alongside its current fleet of 500. He expressed that they aim to reach 800 aircraft by the centenary celebration in 2033 and planned to achieve a total of 1000 aircraft by 2036. THYAO reached only 65 aircraft in 70 years between 1933-2003, but in the last 23 years, it has reached 500 aircraft, and now aims to achieve 1000 aircraft in the next 10 years.
Among the investments are the second phase of the world's largest air cargo terminal with a capacity of 4.5 million tons, a large in-flight catering facility with a daily capacity of 500,000, and Europe’s largest wide-body aircraft engine maintenance center. Additionally, the foundation has been laid for expanding flight training buildings, data centers, and facilities such as the Widect brand that will offer "door-to-door cargo service."
Bolat stated that when the investments in this context are completed, they will provide employment for more than 36,000 people and contribute to setting standards in the aviation sector. THYAO's future growth plans will increase competitiveness in the sector and strengthen Turkey's position in the field of aviation.
