Tesla Sales Decline Continues in the EU

As of September 2023, sales of Tesla vehicles in European Union (EU) countries decreased by 18.6% compared to the same month last year.

Car Registration Data Released

The European Automobile Manufacturers Association (ACEA) has released new car registration data for EU countries for the January-September 2023 period. According to this data, Tesla, owned by Elon Musk, continues to experience a decline in sales in the European market and has entered a decline period that has lasted for 9 months.

Details of Sales Decline

Sales of Tesla vehicles, which were 31,535 units in September last year, decreased to 25,656 units in the same period this year. Thus, it was observed that Tesla sales in the EU market decreased by 18.6% in September compared to the same month last year.

The brand's share of total new car sales in the EU fell from 3.9% to 2.9% in September. Additionally, during the January-September 2023 period, Tesla sales decreased by 38.7% compared to the same period last year, reaching 111,328 units.

Decline in Tesla’s Market Share

During this period, the company's total share in the EU market also decreased from 2.3% to 1.4%. Total Tesla sales in EU member countries, as well as Switzerland, Norway, and Iceland, which are members of the European Free Trade Association, and the UK, fell by 10.5% in September compared to the same month last year, reaching 39,837, and during the January-September period, they decreased by 28.5% to 173,694.

Tesla's sales in European countries have shown a continuous decline since the beginning of this year. The controversial behaviors of Tesla CEO Elon Musk, along with his long-term close collaboration with former US President Donald Trump and his support for far-right politics in Europe, have led European consumers to distance themselves from the company.
