Tesla has obtained the necessary permits to launch its robotaxi service in Arizona, preparing to operate in the United States as the third state in this area. The company has acquired a Transportation Network Company license. This license allows Tesla to offer a passenger transportation service similar to Uber. However, for now, a driver is still required for safety purposes, and fully autonomous (driverless) operations are not yet possible.
In September, Tesla received permission to conduct autonomous vehicle tests and operations with a safety driver in Arizona. The company's application in this regard was submitted on November 13, 2025, and was approved just four days later on November 17.
Indicating its desire to operate specifically in the Phoenix Metro area, Tesla has also submitted separate license applications for fully driverless vehicles. The company is already providing its robotaxi service in Austin and the San Francisco Bay Area. Additionally, it has been reported that Tesla plans to operate in five new cities in the future, including Nevada, Arizona, and Florida.
Arizona stands out as one of the states identified by Tesla CEO **Elon Musk** for robotaxi services. This development highlights Tesla's progress in autonomous driving technology and its ambitions in the robotaxi market.
