StandardAero Delivers 1,000th J85-5 Engine for USAF

Scottsdale, Arizona – November 6, 2025 – StandardAero (NYSE: SARO), an independent leader in aftermarket services for the aerospace industry, has delivered the 1,000th GE Aerospace J85-5 engine for the United States Air Force (USAF). This delivery marks a significant milestone in providing critical support to the T-38 Talon training aircraft fleet.

This achievement comes just five years after StandardAero began operations under a Motor Regional Repair Center contract with the USAF. The J85-5 engine powers the T-38 Talon, which is used to train USAF and allied nation fighter pilots. By supporting the J85-5 engine, StandardAero provides comprehensive Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul (MRO) solutions for government and military customers in mission-critical operations.

The J85 engine was first designed in 1954 and is expected to power U.S. military aircraft through 2040. In addition to the T-38 Talon, this engine has been used in various military applications, including the Boeing B-52 bomber's GAM-72 Green Quail missile decoy system and the N156F Freedom Fighter (referred to as the F-5). The F-5, powered by the J85 engine, has been a successful aircraft worldwide. Additionally, the CJ610 is the commercial variant of the J85 engine that powers the Lear Jet, which was released in 1963.

To celebrate the delivery of the 1,000th engine, StandardAero held a ceremony at the Tech Port Center in Port San Antonio. The event was attended by the J85-5 production team, supporting organizations, and valued guests. Rick Pataky, StandardAero's Vice President and General Manager of Military Division, stated, "It is a great honor to support the USAF pilot training mission. Delivering 1,000 engines in such a short time demonstrates our team’s dedication and collaboration."

Marc Drobny, President of StandardAero's Military, Helicopter, and Energy Division, added, "This milestone reflects the strength of our partnership with the USAF propulsion program office, Air Education and Training Command, and the 448th Supply Chain Management Wing. Together, we have established a resilient and transparent value chain that supports the J85-5 fleet, air line operations, and national security."

All J85-5 engines are serviced exclusively at StandardAero's Port San Antonio facility, which spans over 810,000 square feet. This facility supports five major engine MRO programs for military and commercial customers. Additionally, StandardAero's Aviation Mechanic Training Program trains over 200 technicians annually. StandardAero’s Stockton, California location provides service for other J85 engine variants and has been supplying J85 accessories and component repairs to the USAF J85 Repairable Item Management (MISTR) system since 2013. Furthermore, the Stockton facility provides J85-21 support to the U.S. Navy and countries involved in Foreign Military Sales (FMS) programs.

In addition to its military programs, StandardAero is a leading MRO provider for the CFM International LEAP-1A and LEAP-1B engines. This facility began accepting LEAP-1A and LEAP-1B engines in March 2024 and is rapidly growing to reach full operational scale to provide global operators with enhanced efficiency and productivity.

StandardAero is an independent leader serving the commercial, military, and business aviation markets. The company offers a comprehensive range of critical, value-added aftermarket solutions, including engine maintenance, repair and overhaul, engine component repair, on-aircraft and field support, asset management, and engineering solutions.
