Collaboration Between SPK and Lawyers

The Chairman of the Capital Markets Board (SPK), İbrahim Ömer Gönül, made significant statements during the protocol ceremony held recently with the Union of Turkish Bar Associations (TBB). This collaboration stands out as a step taken to strengthen the legal infrastructure of capital markets.

The Integrated Role of Law and Capital Markets

In his speech, Gönül emphasized the critical importance of lawyers in the markets by stating, "The role of law and the profession of lawyering in capital markets is distinct." He pointed out that the contributions of lawyers are vital in many areas, from public offerings to company mergers, and expressed that the law needs to deepen with financial literacy.

Digitalization and Law: A New Era

Stating that capital markets have undergone a rapid transformation in recent years and that digitalization has deepened legal evaluations, Gönül said, “In addition to being well-versed in regulations, understanding financial concepts has also become essential for lawyers." The increase in lawyers' financial literacy level will ensure the protection of investor rights and the prevention of disputes, while also playing an effective role in establishing market discipline.

Financial Literacy Day and Global Money Week

In addition to the steps taken today, the significance of designating May 22 as "Financial Literacy Day" by the Presidential General Directorate is noteworthy. Furthermore, Turkey has been given the national coordination responsibility for the events organized by the OECD International Financial Education Network for "Global Money Week." Gönül stated that these initiatives aim to enhance the financial awareness level of society.

A Collaborative Effort Shaping the Future

With the signed protocol, it is aimed to strengthen the knowledge of lawyers regarding capital markets and to increase joint training and awareness activities. Gönül emphasized that this collaboration is not a private gain but rather an important investment in the future of our country's capital markets.
