China's leading energy company, Sinopec, has discovered significant shale oil reserves as a result of drilling operations in the Chongqing city of Chijiang district. In a statement, the company announced that a new reserve of 100 million tons has been confirmed. This discovery is noteworthy as an important development that will contribute to China’s energy independence and natural resource management.
The discovered resource is reported to have a high daily production capacity. It has been noted that 38.64 cubic meters of oil and 10,000 cubic meters of natural gas have started to be extracted from the drilling well daily. Thus, the goal is to meet local energy needs and provide a competitive advantage in the international market.
Sinopec’s discovery may lead to a shift in the global energy market balance. Especially in this period where energy demand is increasing and dependence on fossil fuels continues, finding new resources carries strategic importance. Experts indicate that such discoveries not only increase the country’s energy sources but also contribute to economic growth.
The potential of Chongqing seems to become more prominent as such drilling and energy investments increase. Sinopec's recent discovery may enhance competition in the energy sector and encourage other companies to pursue similar exploration efforts. In the future, the discovery and development of such reserves could help reshape the balance in the energy market.
