Metal Residue Crisis in the Sugar Industry: Consumers are Complaining

At an important meeting held by the Istanbul Commodity Exchange (İSTİB), supported by the Reliable Product Platform, **İSTİB Council Member Muhammet Ali Kılıç** voiced some concerns experienced by sugar-consuming companies. Kılıç emphasized that metal residues found in products from state-owned sugar factories seriously hinder production and cause production lines to stop. Recently, the increasing concerns of consumers regarding these issues in the sector are noteworthy. Kılıç further pointed out that urgent measures should be taken to resolve such problems. It is of great importance for authorities to address this issue and quickly carry out the necessary inspections and analyses. For sector representatives, transparent and reliable production processes should be the primary goal. Furthermore, Kılıç underlined the necessity of improving the quality of sugar factories operating in Turkey, stating that if such metal residues and other contaminations are not prevented, larger crises could occur in the sugar sector. The serious handling of such problems, which would risk consumer health, is also a critical message for the sustainability of the sector. All these events reveal that consultants and industry leaders need to strengthen processes related to sugar production.
