In an interview with Russia's RBK Radio, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov made important assessments about Russia-US relations.
Responding to former US President Donald Trump's characterization of Russia as a "paper tiger" in reference to Russia's failure to achieve victory in the war in Ukraine, Peskov emphasized that Russia disagrees with this description. "Russia is more comparable to a bear; a paper bear cannot exist," Peskov said.
Peskov said his country has been able to survive and maintain its stability despite tensions and sanctions. He also noted the difficulty of forecasting the macroeconomic situation.
One of the topics discussed was the meeting between Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and Marco Rubio. Peskov said, "The channels of dialogue are working. We are talking with the Americans, the current situation is different from the previous period," Peskov said.
Peskov said that the US focus on the Ukrainian crisis ignores the aspects of improving relations. "We cannot move forward only on this issue without resolving bilateral problems. The process of eliminating problems in relations is rather slow," he said.
Peskov said that there is a possibility of a meeting between Putin and Zelensky, but that it should be preceded by work at the expert level. He said that they had proposed three working groups but had received no response from Kiev.
