Polymarket CMO: POLY Token and Airdrop Plans

Polymarket's marketing director Matthew Modabber confirmed that the company is preparing for a local POLY token and an accompanying airdrop. The recent increase in the prediction market is rapidly boosting investor interest in Polymarket. In a statement on the Degenz Live podcast, Modabber said, "There will be a token, there will be an airdrop. What matters to us is not just issuing it; we want to create a lasting and useful token."

The platform's founder, Shayne Coplan, hinted at the token plans earlier this month. However, the company's priority is to re-enter the American market, which it had to exit in 2022. In a statement in September, Coplan indicated that Polymarket had received the necessary approval to resume operations in the U.S. Modabber stated, "The U.S. application is our priority. After we complete that, we will focus on the token launch."

Modabber's statements have triggered new discussions in the community about how the airdrop will be distributed. Speculation suggests that the distribution is expected to be based on trading volume. According to this assumption, the most active users could earn the highest amount of POLY tokens. The POLY token plan coincides with the revival in prediction markets. According to The Block, Polymarket reached a trading volume of $1.4 billion in September, while its competitor Kalshi managed to achieve $2.9 billion.

Polymarket is making significant strides towards doubling its valuation and is currently in discussions for a new funding round with a valuation of up to $15 billion. According to Bloomberg, the company recently received a $2 billion investment from Intercontinental Exchange, the owner of the NYSE. This investment followed Polymarket's $150 million funding round led by Founders Fund in June 2025. Additionally, Polymarket will be a key partner in DraftKings' entry into the prediction market and has signed a multi-year licensing agreement with the NHL. This strategic expansion could potentially create a large user base for the POLY token.
