OpenSea, one of the largest NFT platforms in the world, made an important announcement that caught the attention of cryptocurrency investors. CEO Devin Finzer announced that their native token, $SEA, will be launched in the first quarter of 2026. This innovation goes beyond just a token launch, providing a revolutionary transformation in OpenSea’s ecosystem.

OpenSea is preparing to evolve from merely being an NFT marketplace into a platform that enables the trading of all types of digital assets. Finzer announced that OpenSea will reach a total transaction volume of $2.6 billion by October 2025, with 90% of this coming from token trading. This growth marks just the beginning of the platform’s vision for the new era.

The $SEA token will allow users to stake their favorite collections and projects. In this way, users will be able to trade not only NFTs but also tokens, ideas, culture, and physical products within a single ecosystem. Finzer emphasized that users should be able to trade everything from a single place without getting lost between various chains, bridges, and wallets.

In this process, it was announced that 50% of the total supply for $SEA will be distributed through a strategy managed by the OpenSea Foundation. The initial claiming process will prioritize existing “OG” users and those who have participated in past reward programs. Additionally, the platform aims to support the token's value by using half of its launch revenues for $SEA buybacks.

Finzer states that this initiative is not merely about launching a token but opening the door to OpenSea’s future. It is also noted that the mobile application aimed at enhancing user experience is currently in closed alpha phase, with permanent transactions and real multi-chain integrations on the way.
