Nvidia (NASDAQ: NVDA) denied plans to invest 1 billion dollars in the northern Mexican state of Nuevo Leon. The company stated that there is no financial investment program in this region.
This announcement came just hours after the governor of Nuevo Leon declared that Nvidia would finance an artificial intelligence-focused data center supported by green hydrogen. Local news sources later reported that this investment would actually be carried out by CIPRE Holding in Mexico, with the project utilizing Nvidia technology.
While Nvidia emphasized that there are no financial investment plans in Nuevo Leon, it stated that its activities in Latin America are limited to collaboration, research, and talent development. The company did not provide further information regarding the technical or commercial role of its products.
The governor shared a video announcing the project on social media, where he appeared alongside individuals identified as Nvidia representatives. No information was given about the identity of these individuals or why the governor's announcement was not disputed. Nvidia did not immediately respond to follow-up questions regarding the identities of the participants or the status of the proposed data center.
The Nuevo Leon state government also did not respond to requests for comments.
