Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang will deliver an important keynote address at the GTC event in Washington D.C. Investors are seeking clarity on which chips the leader in artificial intelligence can sell in the vast China market.
Huang's speech will take place at 12:00 PM local time. Meanwhile, President Donald Trump is in Asia and is expected to meet with China President Xi Jinping on Thursday. The central issue of trade discussions between the two countries is expected to be access to Nvidia's chips.
This will be Huang's first speech at the GTC event held in Washington. It is seen as a step towards Nvidia's collaboration with the government and contractors around the capital. At the recent GTC event in California, Nvidia announced its chip roadmap for the next year.
Both during the first term of the Trump administration and under President Joe Biden, the sale of Nvidia's most advanced chips to China has been restricted. However, the second Trump administration has been more open to Nvidia sending its chips there. Huang argues that access to the potential $50 billion sales from the China market is crucial for financing the company's research and development based in the U.S. Previously, Reuters reported that Chinese developers still demand Nvidia's chips, but pressure to purchase domestic chips from Huawei Technologies Co. continues.
Last month, Nvidia announced a partnership with Intel, leading analysts to suggest that this step would help Intel enter markets dominated by central processing units (CPUs). UBS analyst Tim Arcuri said in a note to investors, "After this investment in Intel, the theme of acceleration in the data processing market will emerge. Today, most processing occurs on CPUs," he stated. "We believe this situation will increasingly become an important theme related to Nvidia."
