Casper, WyomingMeta is financing the installation of 180 Gutter Bin® stormwater filtration devices near the data center in Cheyenne. This collaboration is being carried out in partnership with the City of Cheyenne and Frog Creek Partners. Frog Creek Partners represents a NSF ASCEND Engine company supported by Innosphere. This project is part of Meta's commitment to being water positive by 2030, aiming to replenish water basins from which it has exceeded water consumption related to its operations.

Frog Creek's patent-pending Gutter Bins capture debris, sediments, heavy metals, and tire tracks, allowing filtered water to flow into the creek. This device serves as an effective tool for protecting vegetation and wildlife from toxic chemicals and other pollutants commonly found in urban areas by capturing contaminants before water reaches vital ecosystems.

Frog Creek Partners is carrying out this third collaboration project with technology companies in Cheyenne. Previous projects included the installation of 67 Gutter Bins in 2021 sponsored by Microsoft and 127 Gutter Bins established in 2025. The existing Gutter Bins in the city have captured tens of thousands of pounds of pollution, thereby aiding the city’s efforts to mitigate its pollution footprint.

Meta Head of Water Replenishment Stefanie Woodward stated, "Meta takes pride in investing in local water restoration and conservation projects. We believe that returning water sources to communities reflects our commitment to responsible innovation in the places we live and work."

Since 2017, Meta has financed over 40 water replenishment projects. In 2024, these operational replenishment projects are expected to return over 1.6 billion gallons of water to high and medium water-stressed regions. The company’s water management program is designed to address shared water challenges in the basins where Meta operates, aiming to invest in solutions that benefit communities and ecosystems in collaboration with local organizations and service providers. Each project aims to create a lasting positive impact, and progress is measured using rigorously third-party validated methodologies.

Crow Creek in Cheyenne is listed on the 303(d) list as impaired waterways due to sediment and E. Coli pollution, as designated by the Environmental Protection Agency. Therefore, the creek requires an action plan to comply with the total maximum daily load (TMDL) limits established by the Wyoming Department of Environmental Quality. Meta's Cheyenne stormwater filtration project is expected to recover 10.9 million gallons of water annually.
