Global crude steel production reached 145.3 million tons in August 2025, up 0.3% year-on-year.
The Brussels-based World Steel Association (Worldsteel) has released crude steel production data for August. According to this report, production in China decreased by 0.7% to 77.4 million tons.
Japan's crude steel production decreased by 3.4% to 6.6 million tons. In Europe, Germany produced 2.6 million tons, down 10.5%. In contrast, production in the US rose by 3.2% to 7.2 million tons.
Turkey showed a remarkable increase during this period, raising its crude steel production by 7.9% to 3.4 million tons in August. Meanwhile, Brazil saw a 4.6% decline to 2.9 million tons, while Russia saw a 4.6% drop to 5.5 million tons.
In August, India produced 14.1 million tons, up 13.2%, while Iran increased by 17.9% to 1.6 million tons. Global crude steel production decreased by 1.7% year-on-year to 1 billion 230 million tons in January-August 2025.
