As Bitcoin price fluctuations and global investor interest increase, a special event on the Bitcoin network has drawn attention. On Friday, a miner operating with only 6 terahash/second (TH/s) of hashing power succeeded in solving a block through solo mining. This achievement resulted in a total reward of 3.146 Bitcoin for the miner. According to current prices, this reward is valued at approximately 265 thousand dollars.
It was noted that the miner possessed only 0.0000007% of the total power of the network, relative to the standard measurement unit of the sector, exahash (EH/s). In October, the average power of the Bitcoin network had reached 855.7 EH/s. In this context, Con Kolivas, the founder of CKpool, stated that the probability of the miner solving a block in a day is 1 in 180 million, highlighting how exceptional this event is.
The block, which was solved in the context of a winning third party in the 1960s, was recorded as the 308th solo block solved with CKpool software and marked the first solo mining success in nearly three months. Such lucky solo mining examples are rarely seen in Bitcoin's history. For instance, in 2022, a miner found a block with 126 TH/s at a network power of 170 EH/s, with the odds being determined as 1 in 1.3 million.
CKpool is an anonymous solo Bitcoin mining pool that has been in operation since 2014. On this platform, accessed via solo.ckpool.org, miners who succeed in solving a block can take the entire reward with a 2% fee. This feature has made the pool a preferred choice for many small miners who wish to try their luck, even with lower power. This latest example once again proves that, despite the intense competition on the Bitcoin network, luck can still favor those with small devices.
