According to reports from the Wall Street Journal, Cuba is likely increasing its military preparedness in response to the detention of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro. Claims that Washington has planned a similar operation in Cuba have prompted the Havana administration to take action.
The military exercise held in the capital, Havana, was closely monitored by President Miguel Diaz Canel. University students also participated in the exercise, showcasing the young generation's sense of responsibility and resistance for the country. Canel emphasized in his address to the soldiers that the high level of readiness in Cuba is a fundamental component in deterring any potential attack. This stance demonstrates the country's determination.
On January 11, U.S. President Donald Trump warned in a social media post that no more oil or money would be sent to Cuba and called on the Havana administration to "make a deal before it's too late." In response to these threats, Canel described those attacking his country as “groups afflicted by anger that cannot digest the fact that the people have chosen their own political model with their sovereign will,” sending a strong message to his adversaries.
Canel reminded everyone that those declaring the revolution responsible for the severe economic deprivation we endure should be ashamed, stating that the real cause of the economic turmoil faced today is the more than sixty-year-long U.S. sanctions imposed on Cuba.
Cuba is enhancing its military power to cope with escalating geopolitical tensions, and it is evident that the dynamics of international relations should be monitored closely. Canel's strong message emphasizes that the country is ready to defend against any threats.
