Presidential Election Results in TRNC

In the first round of the presidential election held in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC), Republican Turkish Party (CTP) Chairman Tufan Erhürman was elected president by receiving 62.76% of the votes.

The Chairman of the TRNC Supreme Election Board, Bertan Özerdağ, announced Erhürman's victory. Özerdağ stated that Erhürman received 62.76% of the votes, while independent candidate Ersin Tatar received 35.81%.

The voter turnout was recorded at 64.87%, with the voting process starting at 08:00 in the morning and ending at 18:00. Citizens have gone to the polls for the 9th time in this election.

Who is Tufan Erhürman?

Tufan Erhürman was born in North Nicosia and started his education at the Turkish Maarif College. After graduating from this school in 1988, he graduated from Ankara University Faculty of Law in 1992.

He worked as a research assistant in the field of Administrative Law and also taught at Hacettepe University and Middle East Technical University. He earned the title of Doctor of Law with his thesis on "Extra-Judicial Control of the Administration and Ombudsman."

Since 2001, he has served as a faculty member at Eastern Mediterranean University and Near Eastern University, and in 2013, he entered the Republican Assembly as a member of parliament from Lefkoşa representing the CTP. In 2018, Erhürman assumed the role of Prime Minister in the Quadruple Coalition Government.

Tufan Erhürman, who speaks good English, is married and has one child.
