In the Black Sea region, the brown marmorated stink bug, which causes significant damage to agricultural products, is intensifying its movement towards enclosed spaces like homes and vehicles as winter approaches. Measures are being taken regarding this pest that has affected many products, especially hazelnuts.
An effective struggle against the brown marmorated stink bug is ongoing in Trabzon, Giresun, and Ordu. Trabzon Province Director of Agriculture and Forestry İsa Kaplan made important statements about the entry of this pest into closed areas. Kaplan stated, "With the cooling of the weather, an increase in the numbers of stink bugs in areas such as homes, barns, warehouses, and attics is observed."
Kaplan expressed that field applications are being carried out, particularly using the attract-and-kill method to control the brown marmorated stink bug, emphasizing that efforts are being made in cooperation with local authorities. He also highlighted that pesticide spraying will be conducted with biocidal products licensed by the Ministry of Health.
Ordu Province Director of Agriculture and Forestry Bayram Ay noted that a dense observation of stink bugs is occurring, particularly in six districts of Ordu. Ay stated, "We have started distributing pheromone traps to producers. The traps need to be regularly checked and treated."
In Giresun's İsmailbeyli village, a stink bug invasion is also being experienced. The village head Serdal Yenitürk expressed his concerns, saying, "In the last two days, we are encountering stink bugs everywhere. There are many stink bugs inside our homes and vehicles. This situation has negatively affected our hazelnut harvest."
In light of these developments, the importance of taking precautions against the brown marmorated stink bug pest and increasing societal awareness is becoming increasingly significant.
