A major innovation is coming to New York's transportation system. Blade Urban Air Mobility, a subsidiary of Joby Aviation, aims to alleviate the city's traffic issues with new helicopter flights between Manhattan and Westchester County Airport. The duration of these flights will only be 12 minutes, allowing New Yorkers to regain a significant portion of the time lost when commuting to the suburbs.
Blade will perform promotional flights for this new service on Black Friday, which is November 28. Regular flights will begin on December 1 and operate on weekdays. Blade CEO Rob Wiesenthal stated that the levels of traffic in the city have surpassed those of the pandemic period, emphasizing that addressing such demand is a primary goal.
For important suburbs of New York, such as Greenwich, Scarsdale, Rye, and Bedford, the current one-and-a-half-hour journey with traffic will be reduced to just 12 minutes thanks to the new helicopter flights. Flights will be scheduled for morning and evening hours, making the transition between work and home easier.
For Blade Commuter Pass holders, seat prices start at $125 and can go up to $225. Weekly passes are available for $250, monthly for $1,000, and annually for $10,000, offering an attractive option for workers in New York. Additionally, following the federal aviation authority's approval of electric air taxis, services will be provided using zero-emission and quiet Joby aircraft.
