Recent increases in irregular migrant activity have caught the attention of the Coast Guard teams in the open seas of İzmir, particularly in Dikili and Menderes. A total of 74 irregular migrants were captured in a successful operation conducted by the Coast Guard Command.
The first catch occurred off the coast of Dikili. The Coast Guard Mobile Radar detected a group of irregular migrants in an inflatable boat in the area. The Coast Guard ship and boats were quickly directed to the location, where they stopped the boat and rescued a total of 50 migrants, including 7 children. This operation is particularly significant in terms of ensuring the safety of children.
The second operation was carried out off the coast of Menderes. Here, the Coast Guard Mobile Coastal Surveillance Vehicle detected the presence of another group in a different inflatable boat. The teams that arrived at the scene apprehended 24 irregular migrants from the boat and safely brought them to shore. This success once again highlighted the effectiveness of coastal security.
The apprehended irregular migrants were directed to the Provincial Directorate of Migration Management for necessary procedures to be carried out. This process represents a critical stage regarding the legal status of the migrants and their future orientations.
Turkey's determination to combat irregular migration is supported by the increasing number of operations every passing day. The successful operations of the Coast Guard teams not only ensure the country's security but also prevent the lives of irregular migrants from being put in danger.
