Iran's Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Ismail Bakayi announced that the country does not have a plan for nuclear negotiations with European countries. This situation highlights the uncertainties surrounding the implementation of the agreement signed on September 9 with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).
Bakayi provided important information regarding Iran's foreign policy agenda during a press conference at the Foreign Ministry building in the capital Tehran. Iran emphasized that the nuclear agreement signed in 2015 is at risk with the European countries known as E3 (the UK, France, and Germany). In his statement, he criticized the situation that has led to the diplomatic efforts being fruitless by saying, "We are focused on the consequences of the actions of the E3 and the USA."
Bakayi expressed that there is no legal basis for the decision made at the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) to reinstate UN sanctions. He reiterated that "This step was taken at the request of the USA, without considering the interests of European countries." and stated that the sanctions are contrary to international law.
Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi was in New York for UN General Assembly meetings, where he held intense discussions on relevant issues. Bakayi conveyed that the Iranian delegation has made every effort to prevent the illegal actions of the E3 countries. It was also noted that proposals for meetings with IAEA President Rafael Mariano Grossi have been rejected by the other side every time.
Bakayi indicated that the agreement signed on September 9 will not be adopted, stating, "We are a member of the NPT (Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty) and we have a security measures agreement. However, the Cairo agreement is unimplementable." The future of Iran's cooperation with the IAEA will be determined by the Supreme National Security Council.
