Intel (INTC) continues to take significant steps toward reaching an agreement to acquire SambaNova Systems, which focuses on artificial intelligence chips. According to reports from Wired based on anonymous sources, a binding preliminary agreement has been signed between the two companies. However, it has been noted that regulatory approvals and detailed audits are still pending for the completion of the process.
The potential agreement between the two companies has been on the agenda since October. If this acquisition occurs, it is predicted that the cost will be less than the $5 billion determined in the last funding round conducted in 2021. Additionally, Intel's CEO, Lip Bu-Tan, serving as the chairman of SambaNova’s board also strengthens the ties between the two companies.
One of the historical connections between the two companies is the investments made by Intel Capital. SoftBank (SFTBY) invested in Intel last year while also providing funding to SambaNova. These connections create an important foundation for a future strategic partnership between the two firms.
Although there is no definite timeline on the progress of the process, investors are eagerly awaiting the implications of this agreement on the sector and the outcomes of the collaboration between the two tech giants in the field of artificial intelligence.
